New to Willow!

We are delighted to welcome Sarah Willoughby, a cranio-sacral therapist to the Willow team.

Craniosacral therapy developed from the work of an American osteopath, Dr William Sutherland in the early 1900s. He discovered intrinsic movements of the bones in the head and his further research revealed different rhythms in the body. He went on to demonstrate that these movements are inextricably linked with mental and emotional health and that restriction of these movements corresponds to a reduction of the natural capacity to self-heal.

After graduating as an Electrical Engineer in 1985 and working at Cadburys for a number of years Sarah realised she preferred to work with people and their well-being rather than machines. In 1991 she embarked on a journey to explore the world of Natural Health and Healing which eventually took her all over the globe meeting leading-edge Practitioners and Teachers in this field.

Initially Sarah retrained in various bodywork modalities such as Acupressure and Reiki and also qualified as a Massage Therapist. With an increasing interest in the many forms of bodywork and how they relate to the mind and emotions Sarah felt drawn to further explore the powerful but gentle healing that Cranio-Sacral provides. In 1993 Sarah went to India for a 6 month postgraduate training in Cranio-Sacral Balancing (CSB) with the OSHO Institute in Poona.

Sarah then assisted with a number of CSB 1 and 2 training courses with the OSHO Institute in the UK, set up a home-based practice and over time broadcast on the radio regarding the benefits of this pioneering work. In 1996 Sarah also began work out of the Oriental Medicine Practice in Bristol as a CSB Practitioner.
In 1999 Sarah had the opportunity to go to live and work with her husband out in Alberta, Canada. Whilst out there she revisited a 500hr Massage Therapy training as well as taking an Advanced Cranial Osteopathy course with Dr Gideon Seth D.O and an Upledger CST 1 course.

Sarah took a keen interest in women’s health issues and, after training with a Coach in the USA, pioneered and ran Online Training seminars for women in self-awareness and well-being for 7 years. Alongside this online group work Sarah continued to offer one to one CSB sessions from her home in Edmonton, Alberta. Whilst in Canada Sarah stayed in touch with the latest developments in the Human awareness field.
In 2008 Sarah decided to head home to her homeland and to resettle in the Devon area close to family. Since then she has begun to study Hypnotherapy with Chrysalis (on going) and completed a Counselling skills training. More lately she has also attended a HANDLE ‘Introduction to Autism’ course.

Bringing a wealth of human understanding and knowledge together Sarah now specialises in working with women and children to resolve physical/emotional trauma through the medium of Cranio-Sacral Balancing. Sarah incorporates years of experience across a broad range of human development and health issues to offer a unique healing environment.

Sarah has an enhanced CRB and also works in Schools and Colleges locally.
Hobby-wise Sarah is a keen student of Human Design and Astrology, loves to sew, design, and paint. She also really enjoys living and walking by the sea in the Torbay area, especially when the weather is stormy and the waves are wild.
